February 22nd, 2012

Welcome everyone to season 2011.  My name is Lance Ross (better known as Lumpy) and this is my inaugural year as President of the “Mighty Colts”.   I am thrilled to be President and would love for you all to make yourselves known to me throughout the season.

This year, I would like to see our club continue to forge ahead where our primary focus is our young players and their overall welfare.  I would like all players at “The Colts” to remember this is their club and that we will continually support and work with them to continually improve their skills, develop a strong sense of team work and mate ship and to strive for excellence in our great game of Rugby League.   In the words of the great Jack Gibson, I would like every boy who leaves the field to know and feel that “he played strong and done fine”, because we instil in them a desire to do their very best.

Furthermore in the words of the great man, I would hope that our club supporters never gain the reputation for being so biased that we could be accused of “booing Santa Claus”.   By this I mean I would hope that our club maintains a strong sense of sportsmanship and respect for the opposition, as lets face it, our referees are human and in the heat of battle, mistakes will be made and emotions will run high.

We are pleased and proud to embrace our past sponsors and welcome our new sponsors to the Club.  We are grateful for the generous funding that permits our club its continuous success.  We look forward to seeing you at Blaxland Oval throughout the season to catch some of the games.

Lastly, a big thank you to our fantastic Committee, Coaches and Managers who volunteer hours of their own time and work tirelessly to ensure everyone associated with the Colts has a great experience and our players are passionate about their respective team and their club.   THANK YOU to all of you for the support you are giving me and more importantly to the players of our club.

I believe that “Success is a Journey, not a Destination”, and on our season journey there will be the trials and tribulations, but above all, at the end of a long hard season that as a club, we feel a real sense of success from the week to week grind of training, player highs and lows, player injury management, more wins than losses (we hope) where we can boast that……”we all played strong and done fine”.

“Blow that whistle ref, hear that whistle blow, the game it has begun, let’s watch the Colts on show”
“We’re in the greatest game of all and every Colt stands tall”
“We’re playing hard, we’re playing tough, alert in every play the ball”
“We charge up in defence, we’re fleet of foot in attack”
“We’re going strong, we’re doin’ fine and our passion will never crack”
It has been a phenomenal start to season 2011 kicking off with 3 home trial events, inviting other clubs to the premier ground in the Shire! It was a lot of organising and hard work for the committee, but it really kicked off the season in great fashion.
A special mention and huge congratulations must go to the following players who have reached this year a milestone with the Colts.
Our Junior Colts from the 13a’s who have achieved 100 games with the club are:
To our one and only Senior Colt from the A Reserves who has achieved a massive 200 games this year for the club is:
The Mighty Colts are training hard and playing strong week in, week out. As of this week, pleased to report that all of the re-grading of teams is complete and I trust to all Coaches and Managers satisfaction. So moving forward, let’s all get on with the season and ensure the kids and senior players are having fun!
To the committee and all volunteer’s week in and week out, whom without, this club would not be thriving the way we are.
Just a short request to our hardworking Coaches, Managers and Trainers, please support your club in getting your parents more involved on game day helping out with canteen and BBQ. This really needs to become automatic if you have a home game. It is only fair to give the same volunteers a break that are there every weekend. Otherwise the committee are going to have to look to implement a roster system for the team. So your support would be really appreciated by all in this area.
In closing, let’s keep going and enjoy the remainder of the Season! Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions or ideas at all and I will, as always, do my best to support you all.

Go the Colts! Lance Ross

February 22nd, 2012

Well it is semi final time, and after an extremely turbulent week it is great that we have an exciting weekend ahead for everyone involved with the semi-finals to compete and enjoy no matter the result.

A heart-felt congratulations to every team that is competing for the Colts – GOOD LUCK and I will be around to as many games as I can get to on Saturday and Sunday to support you all.

I look forward to catching up with everyone back at the club house after the games on Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon.  Would love to see as many parents, players and all involved that can make it.

We were  all deeply saddened to hear about the tragic passing of Zac Bissell.  His loss has rocked our mighty Colts and has left us asking the big life question ‘WHY’.  Whatever are your beliefs, whatever are my beliefs, whatever part you might think God (whatever you perceive him to be) played in this tragedy, we will not get the answers.  But, what is real and highly evident for me from Zac’s passing is that our great Club has shown tremendous human spirit from so many people from the moment the news was heard.

Your words of love and empathy, your desire to support and help Zac’s family, all of his teammates and I, is really helping us all through this time of grieving.  Your sensitivity and caring is part of the healing process.  I encourage you to draw on your strength and the strength of your families to get through such a difficult time.  We have a very special person to remember and a young life to celebrate and honour.

As a club, we must rise above this terrible adversity and continue to offer full support and a strong sense of hope to Zac’s family, his teammates and all of the boys playing for the mighty Colts.

In closing, I am doing my best to move forward and support all of the boys, and my heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone in the Colts club.

Let’s pull together and continue to ‘play strong and do fine’.

Rest in Peace Biss.
